Meet Paakow Essandoh, the 24-year-old Ghanaian Entreprenuer who founded MIZIZI. MIZIZI is a powerful African clothing brand whose mission is to unite the African Diaspora and reminding us to stay rooted. The idea was founded in the spring of 2014 while Paakow was attending the University of South Florida. While on campus he noticed a lack of African pride and representation. This experienced sparked an itriguinging question. Is there a lack of pride and representation of African globally? This question led to the founding of MIZIZI. The company was then founded in order to solve this problem.
MIZIZI is Swahili is translated to “roots”. The brand was designed to promote the idea of Africans to #StayRooted. This reminds Africans to have a sense of pride in where they come from. The company officially founded in 2015 and has lived up to the initial promise. To uplift and provide a sense of pride in the African community.
As the company continued to grow their vison caught national attention. Marvel’s Black Panther was set to be Marvel’s biggest movie release to date. Ironically the movie embodied everything MIZIZI was preaching. Staying Rooted, having pride in Africa and promoting a positive image of Africa. Black Panther showed Africa in a unique light, a light that we all hope for. In Black Panther Wakanda was the most technologically advanced society. The climate was beautiful and the people of Wakanda were even more beautiful. It was a futuristic dream. As the buzz of Black Panther rose so did the buzz surrounding MIZIZI. Driven by fan demand, Marvel collaborated with MIZIZI on limited edition Black Panther Baseball jerseys. The perfect brand to represent such an epic movie.
MIZIZI continues to spread their message and uplift Africa. Founder Paakow recently interviewed with Forbes to speak on his journey as well as the company’s.
